Norton Online Backup is a secure and easy way to automatically backup your files online. Store a load of files (from multiple household computers) online for optimum security, accessibility, and recovery. Norton Online Backup is a great solution for keeping your important files from being lost, damaged, or otherwise obsolete. It’s all online so you don’t have to worry about physical disasters, and it’s always accessible. Furthermore, since Norton Online Backup is automatic, you don’t have to waste time and effort performing extensive backups.
Norton Online Backup is not primarily a virtual drive, so you won’t find some of the versatility in other solutions (file versioning, file sharing, mobile access). For storage solutions, you may be interested in checking out our online storage services reviews. But more than simply providing a place to store files, Norton 360 offers an automated solution for online backup. You may have heard of this new approach, dubbed ‘cloud computing’. Norton Online Backup takes your backup process to a whole new level by making it automatic, and completely web-based.
Norton Online Backup Standout Features:
The primary use of Norton Online Backup is to securely store your files online. Norton Online Backup uses a single dashboard interface, but you can use it to store and recover files on all of your family computers.
Norton Online Backup is completely automatic. You can perform a manual 1-click scan if needed, but you can also set up a schedule and let Norton do the rest.
Though the main use of Norton Online Backup is for emergency backup, the restoration process is relatively simple. Since your files are stored online, you can access them on any web-enabled computer, and you don’t have to worry about loss or sorting through old tapes. You don’t have to carry around hard drives, and you don’t have to archive hundreds of discs.
But what we really liked about Norton Online Backup was the simplicity and flexibility of the service. The system is truly automatic, so you can set it and forget it. Traditional backup software isn’t completely difficult to use, but it sure can be time consuming. With this new approach, you can let Norton do the hard work with Norton Online Backup.
You are able to access all of your backed up files from any computer’s web browser. You can even download files within the browser so you don’t have to install the actual Norton software on the computer.
Unfortunately, Norton Online Backup doesn’t include the ability to access your files from a mobile device, nor can you sync files between your computer and your phone.
Furthermore, unlike most of the online storage and backup services reviewed, Norton Online Backup is not designed to be used as an online photo organizer, or way to share sites. You can’t send files to your friends through email or allow them to view them (without giving them access to all of your files). Norton Online Backup also doesn’t have a built-in file versioning system.
