Backup Features:  

In terms of back up features, MyOtherDrive offers the basics plus a few extra useful tools such as Grab File. With this online backup service you can easily back up large volumes of your data automatically. It can be configured to automatically copy and save new and changed files on schedule, completely unattended.

The Grab File tool is a unique feature that will let you copy files directly from a web site, such as a favorite video or image. This tool can be used to move images you may have hosted on an image hosting site (like flickr) extremely easily.

Remote/ Mobile/ Web Access:  

MyOtherDrive offers some great collaboration and sharing tools such as file linking, secure links, public sharing and online albums. The file linking tool allows you to create a link that you can post on a public site such as eBay or it can be used to host an image or file for your website or blog, it also has a “bullet proof” option that will keep that link valid as long as that file is hosted on their servers, so even if you move it to a different file, the link will still work.

Secure links give you the opportunity to share large files with a collaboration group. For example, you create the group and then send them a link to the file/folder and with their username/password they can access the data. This service also supports public file sharing. If you set you file to share with “Everyone on the Internet” the file is visible to everyone without them having to login.

Images can also be hosted with their service, up to 2GB for free, with an online album. The albums include thumbnail and full size images and can be set to public or private access. You can also set file permissions on the images so they cannot be downloaded unless you allow it.

This service does not, however, offer cell phone specific tools like SugarSync does. They also do not yet have a Mac or Linux version.

Security:  

MyOtherDrive uses AES 128-bit encryption. Files are encrypted before they are stored on their servers, so even MyOtherDrive employees cannot view your files.

Backup Space/ Price:  

This online backup service provides a large memory package for the price; the Pro version provides 100GB of storage for only $4.99 per month or up to 500GB for $9.99 per month. The Enterprise version supports 1TB of memory for $240 per year or a whopping 10TB for $2400 per year. They also offer free services for up to 2GB. All packages include un-metered bandwidth and unlimited parallel downloads.

Ease of Use:  

We found MyOtherDrive fairly easy to use. The interface appears a bit dated, but all icons are easy to interpret and the control panel is arranged logically. We especially liked how easy it is to set file permissions and use the Grab File tool.

Help/Support:  

You can contact MyOtherDrive by email for support or read through their FAQs or help section. Unfortunately, they do not post a telephone support number or offer chat support.

We like the pricing structure and collaboration and sharing tools offered by MyOtherDrive. Even though they do not offer unlimited backup capacity like some services, they do offer some very large packages, up to 10TB. Their backup specific tools are fairly competitive; however, we would just like to see them amp up their support a bit and add redundant storage.
